Bb – Elgg integration project

Now Im working the Blackboard and Elgg integration. Blackboard has a Portfolio system by Payment. The idea is create a bb powerlink to Elgg that permit blackboard teachers users create groups in Elgg and links in their courses to these.

The first step is set Elgg correctly. Elgg can´t hide the possibility of create new groups to the user. I decided to modify the Elgg group mod and now you can.

About iPad

Just market the new toy from Apple, the iPad. And admittedly, the reviews I’m finding out there do not seem entirely fair. Negatively criticize this mobile device.

I my opinion, we always expect more and more of this new apple side product. They are very limited and any application that wants to enter the appstore has to pass the apple’s filters, which guarantees a novice user friendly environment to work, but most experienced users can not do what we feel like it, just do what the boss Jobs let us.

But I think this device is not only aimed at novice users, is also oriented virtualization systems. Oriented to the FUTURE.

Let me explain:
This is not a PC, is a mobile, but if you need the true capabilities of a PC… why you don’t access remotely to this? (rdp, vnc, vmware, etc …) there are applications for it! Soon we used to it …

NYC 2010

2010 is the year. At last, I will realize one of my dreams. 1 months and a half in New York City, more specifically from 30 July to 13 September I will make a stay at the New Yorker residence and attend a English course (as you can see, I need it …) on the 63rd floor of the Empire State.

Iphone SDK in Medion Akoya

Since I get a Iphone, nearly 1 years ago (I was very lucky, thanks Joan!) I have been fascinate by Iphone’s usability.

And like any good programmer, the first thing I did was download the iPhone’s SDK. As expected the Xcode application could only be installed under OS X Leopard platforms, and after purchasing a new desktop computer and have recently purchased my laptop, and I went through the head to buy an Apple (I’m thinking seriously …).

No problem, one of the projects we work at the University is associated with virtual machines and their application to elearning using VMWare. So I set to work and started to create virtual machines with OS X Leopard. I could prove, without exaggeration, about 15 virtual machines with thousands of different configurations and I have never been able to install Xcode.

My good friend Mario gave me the opportunity to purchase a Medion Akoya at a great price, and for a few touches on his website and intranet finally gave it to me.

Well, now I have dark circles more than a dormouse with overdose of Red Bull but I have my miniPC with Leopard installed, updated and running 100%.

BlackBoard CE 8 in VMWare: Running

After 4 months of hard work and a lot of test, we have managed to install, in a vmware environment of virtualization, the latest version of WebCT – BlackBoard CE 8.

For a few months we will have this facility for testing and a few months to turn farm.

The new version brings many improvements and a radical change in the user environment. We were doing tests with Moodle but the inversion that exists in teacher training and hinders migration WebCT to Moodle made us decide to Blackboard.

In coming posts I will discuss the experience with this new platform.

Virtual Classrooms

From the University of Almeria, we are proud to be pioneers in a Andalusia’s project. The proposed virtual classrooms.

Using the VMWare virtualization of machines, we put at the disposal of the students of the university, through its Internet connection from home, a PC with all the tools necessary for the completion of its practices. Licensed software, hardware architecture specified, and so on.

Hi, my name is Emilio Peña. Im from Spain and live in Almería a small city, with beautiful beaches, of Andalucía.

Now Im working at University of Almería, my job is to manage virtual platform (LMS) like WebCT and Moodle and E-Learning contect creation too.

I’m participating in an experiment with muvenation, an international course on new technologies teachers.

I’m very encouraged with this course where I hope to learn new methodologies and make new contacts.
